A family-run farm situated just outside Cromdale within the Cairngorms National Park, the Cassells farm one of Scotlands oldest native breeds, pure Highland Cattle, and a small flock of sheep - a mixture of pure Jacobs and Texel X. They also have free-roaming chickens, and occasionally rear rare breed pigs from weaners, which they turn into bacon themselves using traditional methods. Working recently with an on-farm butcher, they offer seasonal wild game, shot on the farm and locally, as well as mutton. We pride ourselves on rearing our animals to the highest of welfare standards in the happiest environment we can provide. Non of our animals are routinely treated with antibiotics and are raised as naturally as possible. Our cattle are predominantly grass fed with the addition of some home grown, home produced Barley. Our pigs live in the woodland and are free to roam and forage for roots and insects and display their natural piggy behaviour.

Barbreck Farms

One of the few farms in Argyll to raise and finish their own cattle, Barbreck is situated on rich, low-lying pasture at the head of Loch Craignish, around 20 miles south of Oban. Calves are suckled until 10 months old and fed home-produced silage when wintering in sheds, before being butchered on site. Barbreck's lambs are raised on their mother's milk and herb-rich hill pastures, and both meats are available from their website and in the farm shop, alongside seasonal pork from Mull and local venison.
