The Mile Pocklington is a family owned and run business – the Barnes family have been farming in the area for decades. We are a 10-15 minute walk from Pocklington town centre going towards Millington, Bishop Wilton and Kilnwick Percy on a stretch of road known simply as The Mile.

The Owton’s family history have been connected with Chalcroft farm where the butchers and farm shop is based, for over 400 years and has been associated with shops in the area since the 1800s. Specialising in locally sourced meat and produce. We have an extensive range of suppliers that supply beef, and pork including just two fields away.

Avalon Vineyard is situated on the site of a historic vineyard near Glastonbury and was started from scratch by myself, Hugh Tripp, and my wife, Hilary. Starting on just half an acre in 1981, our first wines won awards in national competitions. Encouraged, we bought more land to expand plantings and build our own winery. From the start we were committed to organic principles. This was facilitated by our choice of resistant ‘hybrid’ varieties of vine that do not need to be sprayed with fungicide (which is something that happens even in many organic vineyards).

A family-run farm situated just outside Cromdale within the Cairngorms National Park, the Cassells farm one of Scotlands oldest native breeds, pure Highland Cattle, and a small flock of sheep - a mixture of pure Jacobs and Texel X. They also have free-roaming chickens, and occasionally rear rare breed pigs from weaners, which they turn into bacon themselves using traditional methods. Working recently with an on-farm butcher, they offer seasonal wild game, shot on the farm and locally, as well as mutton.
