The J M Bakery is a proper traditional bakery, where everything is freshly hand crafted every day for our three High Street retail shops, or specific orders for our many satisfied retail and wholesale customers. At The JM we specialise in all things bakery, from the best morning rolls in Angus and Tayside and our specialist designer wedding and celebration cakes, to our hand crafted buffets – you wont be disappointed with any of our products.
We call ourselves artisans because we make bread by hand using long fermenting, traditional methods. Organic flour and water are all we need to start making our bread. Then adding a touch of salt and the best natural ingredients, our skilled bakers create great tasting bread, ranging from our natural sourdoughs and ryes to bloomers and ciabatta.
At Balgove we take food very seriously and most certainly favour 'living to eat' over 'eating to live'; if you feel likewise then we'll get on very well.
The Old Village Bakery is located in the village of Melmerby, only a short walk away from Melmerby Hall, Stag Cottage and Kirkbride Hall. The cafe is open daily and serves delicious breakfasts, lunches, coffees, homemade bread and cakes and has a lovely ladies fashion, interior and gift shop upstairs called ‘Hollberrie‘ which is definitely worth a visit to support local independent retailing! You can also buy fresh bread, cakes and scones, coffee and other locally sourced and produced foods.
