The Old Post Office Bakery, London’s Oldest Organic Bakery, was born in the early 80’s, the child of an illicit union between London’s 60’s and 70’s counterculture and an ancient European tradition of artisan bread making. Flowing through its veins was always a DIY ethic, a deeply held belief in resourcefulness, and the desire to create wholesome foods from simple ingredients.
Traditional artisan breads which are made with the highest quality ingredients and craftsmanship for restaurants, hotels, pubs, wholesale and retail outlets. We sell and supply a variety of homemade breads, mornings goods, artisan breads, savouries and patisseries. We use non bleached flour in all of our breads and have one of the lowest salt contents in the country. We are passionate about baking real bread and do not compromise of flavour, freshness or quality. Our real bread is made by hand skilled real bread makers without the use of processing aids or any other artificial additives.
At Balgove we take food very seriously and most certainly favour 'living to eat' over 'eating to live'; if you feel likewise then we'll get on very well.
We produce and offer the finest baked artisan goods using traditional methods ranging from the traditional loaf to a wide selection of speciality breads, cakes, pastries and take away sandwiches.
Bringing a taste of France to the North East, the bakery boasts a well stocked fromagerie and charcuterie in addition to croissants, pain au chocolat and speciality breads.

Hand-crafted bread, lovingly made by Jane, in small batches with time, time and yet more time. Jane uses natural and carefully sourced British ingredients.
We’re passionate about making bread that tastes great, is good for you and helps the local community. Every loaf that comes out of our oven is made slowly by hand, using just four ingredients - flour, water, yeast (mostly wild) and salt.
We love what we do – creating real bread, using flour without commercial additives and improvers is great fun and we believe that flows through into the flavour, structure and amazing quality of our bread!
