Balnafettach Farm
A family-run farm situated just outside Cromdale within the Cairngorms National Park, the Cassells farm one of Scotlands oldest native breeds, pure Highland Cattle, and a small flock of sheep - a mixture of pure Jacobs and Texel X. They also have free-roaming chickens, and occasionally rear rare breed pigs from weaners, which they turn into bacon themselves using traditional methods. Working recently with an on-farm butcher, they offer seasonal wild game, shot on the farm and locally, as well as mutton. Broom House is a windy spot at 750 feet, with fabulous views over the surrounding countryside, when the weather allows! The farm house is on the top of the hill, but the farmland itself rolls down the valley to the River Browney. Broom House is a livestock farm - although some arable crops such as oats and barley are grown, as well as forage crops like turnips and kale - with the aim of producing as much of our own feed for the animals as possible.
